$175 Million Increase Largest Ever for Program
News Flash! In early January, 2002, President Bush
signed into law the FY2002 Labor-Education-HHS Appropriations
bill that includes $1.344 billion for the Health Centers program,
a $175 million increase over the previous year and the largest
increase ever for the program!
"This is a great holiday present for millions of Americans
who don't have access to care today," said National Association
of Community Health Center's (NACHC) President and CEO Tom
Van Coverden. "Thanks to the visionary leadership and
hard work of many Congressmen and Senators, Health Centers
will begin to realize our goal of doubling the number of patients
we serve over the next five years."
Last year, Community Health Centers provided front-line,
comprehensive primary health care for more than 11 million
people in nearly 3,500 different communities across the country.
