Job purpose:

The Pharmacy Director will be responsible for the overall operation of the Pharmacy Department. The Director plans, organizes, implements pharmacy policies and procedures in accordance with Federal, State laws and regulations and GVHC policies.  With consideration of mandates of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and the National Committee on Quality Assurance (NCQA)  The Pharmacy Director will have the qualifications and ability provide the full scope of pharmacy services which fall under his/her field of training and licensing.  The Pharmacy Director is a member of the GVHC Health Care Team.  Under the supervision of the Chief Medical Officer the Pharmacy Director will develop, implement and oversee a medication management/therapy approach to care.  The Pharmacy Director will ensure processes meet or exceed regulatory and industry standards and meet requirements of our contractual relationships with accountable care organizations and other health insurance entities.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

  • BS in Pharmacy or PharmD degree from an accredited college of pharmacy.
  • Must have and maintain a current license from the Montana state board of pharmacy.
  • 3 years pharmacy experience as a Pharmacist in Charge (PIC) in a retail setting including prescription filling and verification, records and legal compliance, pharmacy operations, pharmacy software and technology systems and insurance and 340b experience.
  • Supervisory experience must include planning, organizing, and directing the work of pharmacy staff.
  • Have and maintain a valid Montana’s driver license.
  • Current BLS Certification
  • Strong work ethic, positive, caring, knowledge of cultural diversity and social determinants of health, team oriented. May be requested to perform functions relevant to the position but not listed above.

Main Duties and Responsibilities of the Role: these duties are the essential functions and are not all-inclusive of all duties that the incumbent performs.

  • Plans, directs, and monitors all financial, operational, professional, and clinical activities of the pharmacy department.   Monitors, analyzes and reports on established performance metrics.
  • Maintains the highest customer service standard throughout the pharmacy operation.  Maintains focus on GVHC mission, vision and organizational strategy.
  • Works closely with the Leadership Team to develop and manage pharmacy business operations including analysis of potential business opportunities, anticipated margins, forecast of future sales and performance metrics.  Applies for and manages grants appropriate for support of the pharmacy operation.  Manages vendor and payer contracts for the pharmacy operation.  Responsible for managing the Pharmacy budget.
  • Proactively anticipate both the needs of Greater Valley Health Center (GVHC) and the impact operations have on the organization’s success. Collaborates with CEO to define and develop new strategic business opportunities.
  • Implements Policies and Procedures that ensure the pharmacy department provides optimal pharmaceutical services that meet all legal, accreditation, and certification requirements.  Provides oversight to the 340(b) pharmacy program ensuring compliance and maximizing utilization.
  • Ensures that all pharmacy staff are currently licensed/certified/registered and have adequate Continuing Education credits.
  • Develops programs that ensure all pharmacy staff performs all duties and responsibilities with utmost efficiency and safety, as well as complies with all applicable policies, procedures, and standards of GVHC.
  • Provides GVHC staff with timely information relative to new drugs, policies and standards of care that relate to medication use/safety.
  • Keeps current with State regulations regarding the practice of Pharmacy and implements changes as necessary to maintain compliance.
  • Leads to improving culture, employee and physician engagement, empowerment, growth, and retention, while remaining committed to GVHC’s management and prosperity for its customers, employees and community.
  • Acts as a mentor and preceptor to doctoral pharmacy students, Family Medicine Residency of Western Montana residents and pharmacy technicians in training.
  • Works closely with the GVHC medical staff to maintain a cost-efficient drug Formulary.
  • Collaborates with Human Resources to develop, implement and support programs and processes that add value to GVHC, its leadership and employees.
  • Provides clinical pharmaceutical services to GVHC medical clinics.  Provides consultation for patients and staff regarding medication.  Documents care provided in compliance with GVHC policies.
  • Participates in staff meetings, leadership meetings, planning meetings, and other meetings as needed.
